Our Solar system

Our Solar system has planets. We even learned my very energetic mother just served us nachos  which represent Mercury ,Venus, Earth,Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

All the planets need to be in place. I found an interesting fact about Mars. Mars may look hot but it is very cold! My partner was Elise. By the way, we picked Mars because of the singer. I am a big fan but I don’t know if Elise is. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. We made our planet out of polystyrene. We painted the polystyrene colours. That’s all I have learned about planets if you want to learn more about planets you can research.

Water safety

At the beginning of  term 4 we learned about haiku poems so basically it was made in Japan. In the first sentence you need 5 syllables and at the second line you have 7 syllables. The last line needs 5 again so that is a haiku poem and this is mine:

HAIKU POEM

Freezing blue water

feeling very excited

cold and shivering

Mission Day 2024

Last Friday on September the 13th it was Mission Day! We wore mufti. We had to pay for our mufti but luckily our Teacher paid for our mufti. We had to keep it a secret. Everyone was so excited. We went to mass and I did not know that we had a different Priest. After Mass we saw a dead rat!! We  went for early morning tea, and after morning tea we set up our stalls but my group went shopping. I shopped for a crocheted pouch and a little adorable duck

I couldn’t let go of the duck. When we were done shopping it was our turn to work on our fishing game. I was so worried because my friend lost her pouch. There were so many coins in that pouch we asked a lot of people if they saw a white pouch. No one saw a white pouch so we had to forget about it. I was yelling to people to go fish, and one person kept on fishing again and again. After the games we had to tidy up, and all of us got a sausage. I did not get one because I did not want one. I ate my lunch and went to play. When the bell rang everyone had to go inside and we watched a movie called Pete’s Dragon. When we had watched half of the movie the ice blocks came. We only finished half of the movie and the bell rang and it was great news! Because we found the pouch. After we saw the pouch it was raffle time and first raffle rugby balls my sister won. I was so happy for the second raffle – it was for bikes and my friend won a bike. Now we can bike together and it was time to go home. I was so happy at the end of the day but I was so tired.

Cycling Day

Last Thursday I felt anxious and excited at the same time because we were going for a cycling lesson with  Room 7 at the top court. Our bike instructors were Stephanie and  Lucy. The students who knew how to ride a bike were told to be in the Carrot group. The rest are in the Broccoli group. I was in  the Broccoli group because I don’t know how to cycle properly.

First we were assigned to get a bike each with a helmet. Then Mrs Agnew taught us how to scoot by putting our feet together to push the bike forward  and also for balance. As we scooted we counted one two three then we raised our feet while trying to balance our bodies.

My favourite part is when we went downhill because it was pretty hard and my heart was beating hard. A lot of times I nearly fell down. Our bottoms hurt and we were yelling that our bottoms hurt so we took a break from biking and ate some fruit. One of our friends couldn’t stop eating fruit so we had to eventually stop. We kept on biking and the bell rang and the bikes were gone. We had so much fun with them and I learned a lot.

Learn how to Crochet

On Wednesday while my other classmates are at the Rippa Rugby tournament my friend and I were trying to learn how to crochet. Two of our friends in the older class taught us how to Crochet  their names are Nicole and Angel they said we were their favorite kids in the class it was my first time having an older friend. My Angel said they are gonna sell their creation on mission day they were for 2$ I was so happy because I had $2 so I told them can we have one for a quartet. I wanted a pastel yellow and white color and the others blue and pink.I tried to crochet a Capybara. My friend gave me a pack of yarn and that was it. I had so much fun I hope I get to do it again.

Paris Olympics 2024

Have you ever heard about the Olympics? If you haven’t found out then I will share a few facts with you. The modern Olympics started on 6 April, 1896 and are held every four years. I researched an athlete named Aleah Finnegan and she is representing the Philippines. It was her dream to be in the Olympics and now she is having the best time competing at the Olympics. She is competing for artistic gymnastics and she is a gymnast too.

It’s now time to talk about art – Keith Haring is an artist well-known in the USA and when he was a kid he became interested in Art. When he was an adult he started doing art in subways in New York and in churches. We recreated his drawings with pencil outlines of our athlete. We outlined our art with coloured paper. I chose yellow paper after that I used a black marker and outlined it and stuck it to my background and that is how I made my art. It is about Aleah Finnegan. Can you see her sport represented in my picture?

Comparing and contrasting Tortoises and turtles

Do you know that turtles and tortoises have similarities and differences. Turtles and tortoises both don’t have teeth, they have small brains but they are smart. however they do have differences. Turtles live only for 20 to 30 years but tortoises can live for 100 to 150 years. Even though  turtles live in water. Tortoises can only live on the  land. Both turtles and tortoises  go into hibernation  for around 5 months during winter time. When they hibernate turtles cover themselves in muddy water while tortoises hibernate by hiding inside their shells just sleeping and not eating.

Our Wearable Waste Fashion Show

On Thursday it was our special day. Everyone from Room 6 and 7 were exuberant about showcasing our fashion creations to the rest of the students and teachers of our school. We were going to have a Wearable Waste Fashion Show.

During the week we used recycled materials to create our wearable art. By doing this, we hope that less rubbish will go into our seas and harm the marine life. For myself, I decided to use  a black garbage bag and old magazines. I pulled the pages of the magazine and made them into flowers. I made a pile of flowers. Mrs Yumul  taught me how to make flowers. It was fun! That was on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, I made another pile of flowers to put on my hat that Mrs Foden found in the resource room. Mrs Yumul stuck my flowers on my hat with a glue gun and put some on my bag. The hardest part was when I made some flowers, the easiest part was when I put the garbage bag on. That was the end of Wednesday.

It is finally the day, Room 6 and 7 are going to be nervous. I was a little nervous too. Mrs Yumul just had to put the flowers on my dress. After lunch we got dressed in our costumes and went to Room 7 to practice our walks.  When every class came in I wasn’t that excited. When it was my turn I was happy because everything was fine. At first I was thinking that I might trip. That was the end of the fashion show. Now I have nothing to worry about. I was very proud of my final outfit.

Littering is bad for our environment

What is litter? Well, you are  about to find out that litter is  rubbish that people chuck away and it eventually goes  into the sea. Plastic is the worst type of litter because it goes everywhere and can stay there for years without decomposing. It is a hazard for sea animals, plants and our environment.

When  turtles or dolphins or whales die, often they have plastic that is stuck in their stomachs. Bryde’s Whales  are nearly extinct and I feel  worried for these animals so we must look after them. There are only 200 left in our  Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

The drains can suck rubbish out to the sea and this is bad for our environment. If we did not throw rubbish everywhere, our seas would be cleaner. Have you ever heard about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?  Many countries have thrown rubbish everywhere and it’s ended up in a vortex  that is going round and round in the Pacific Ocean. It’s really bad!

Now that we have learned about the devastation caused by littering, it would be nice if all the people in the whole wide world do not litter so we have a better place to live in.
